Get Em Gurls

NEWS , NEWS, NEWS…

One day while watching the Oprah show, GEG board member Shanel Saunders was so emotionally moved by hearing the story of the brave brothers. She knew she just had to do something for these amazing boys! The strength, courage, and positivity they displayed was so inspiring. Shanel contacted the Oprah show & in turn was able to get in touch with the Parish family. After speaking with James Parish, she got busy & put together a dream vacation to California. Shanel & husband Joe flew the family to Orange County, and spent an entire week providing "the best experience ever" (As per Amber Parish - adopted Mother). The week included Disney land, with all star guides Wes & Joanna Palmer, Seal Beach, ESPN games, 2 LAAngels games with time on the field in batting practice, meeting Tory Hunter, Weaver and many other players. The Parish family also enjoyed daily lunch & dinners with the Saunders & Palmer families. Although Shanel & Joe Saunders provide most everything, GEG also contributed to many little things. One thing in particular was preparing one large gift basket per family member that was filled with Nike runners, gloves, bats, balls, clothing, Angels gear(donated from a variety of people). All & all the week was amazing and the brave brothers family is truly inspiring. GEG was proud to participate and personally get to know the family.

Creative Packaging, and friends Make A Wish come true!

Earlier this year Kathy Hinkson (board member of Creative Packaging’s charity - Get em Gurls) heard about a very special 8 year old girl’s Make a Wish Foundation trip having to be cancelled because the little girls health did not allow her to travel. Kathy shared this story with her friends Rob & Norma Geier, Barb & Vern Dueck, Wes & Joanna Palmer (Creative Packaging). This group of friends made it their mission for Julia’s wish to come true by planning and funding a trip to Disneyland for Julia, her mother, father and brother. Although right up until the last minute the family did not know if Julia’s health could withstand the trip, they were determine to make miracles happen because on August 14, 2007 Julia and her mother departed Vancouver by train because Julia could not travel by Airplane. Then Julia and her Mother were greeted excitedly by her father and brother who traveled by Airplane and the family lived out Julia’s wish in Disneyland.
